I'm Sequoia Askew, a NCCPA-certified Physician Associate specializing in psychiatry, integrative medicine, and women's mental health. My path to this work was shaped by something I kept witnessing early in my career: patients who had been carrying their struggles alone, moving through a healthcare system that never quite slowed down long enough to truly see them. They did not just need a prescription. They needed someone to listen, advocate, and care about the full story of their lives. That stayed with me, and it became the foundation of how I practice today.

My background spans outpatient psychiatry, integrated family medicine, women's health, and telehealth. I have cared for patients navigating ADHD, anxiety, depression, burnout, hormonal shifts, substance use, and the emotional complexity of major life transitions. What makes my approach different is that I was trained to look at the full picture. Mental and physical health are deeply connected, and I draw on my experience in both psychiatry and primary care to help patients understand the root contributors to what they are feeling, not just the symptoms on the surface. I also incorporate ketamine-assisted therapy and integrative, lifestyle-focused care for patients looking beyond conventional medication management.

As a Black woman in medicine, I carry a personal awareness of how often patients are rushed, dismissed, or made to feel unheard. That shapes everything about how I show up for the people in my care.

Outside of work, I am a mother, a wife, and someone who loves to travel, be outdoors, and keep learning. Becoming a parent deepened my empathy in ways I did not expect, particularly for women silently balancing careers, relationships, and caregiving while running on empty. I understand that weight, and I bring that understanding into every appointment.

If you have ever left a doctor's office feeling unseen, or if you are simply ready for a provider who will take the time to understand you as a whole person, I would be honored to work with you.

Life Outside The Clinic

Outside of work, I am a wife and a mother to two boys, and family is honestly my favorite place to be. I love creating memories with them, whether that is traveling somewhere new, spending time outdoors, or simply finding moments of peace and laughter at home. Music is always playing in my world, and I am someone who genuinely loves to learn. I am constantly exploring personal development, wellness, mindset, and integrative health, because I believe that growing as a person makes me a better provider. People who know me well would say I have a way of being both calming and motivating at the same time, and I try to bring that same energy into every patient relationship I build.
